Job Title: Applications Engineer
Location: Joliet, IL An Applications Engineer works within the building automation and controls domain, focusing on designing, developing, and supporting HVAC control systems and related technologies for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities.
Core Responsibilities
Design & Development: Translate project requirements and mechanical system specifications into effective Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Direct Digital Control (DDC) solutions.
Control Strategy Engineering: Develop control sequences, points lists, network architecture, and system layouts for equipment such as AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat pumps, and central plant systems.
Component Selection: Choose controllers, sensors, actuators, and other control hardware to meet performance and integration needs.
Documentation: Create submittals, bills of materials, control diagrams, and technical project documentation.
Integration & Protocols: Assist with integrations using open protocols like BACnet and Modbus.
Support & Troubleshooting: Provide technical support, troubleshoot application or system issues, and assist with programming, graphics, startup, and commissioning.
Coordination: Work closely with project managers, programmers, technicians, customers, and consulting engineers to ensure solutions meet project goals.
Skills & Experience
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of commercial HVAC equipment, sequences of operation, and control strategies.
Software/Systems Skills: Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, or other industry-standard systems.
Design Tools: Familiarity with Microsoft Visio, AutoCAD, or similar for creating control diagrams and layouts.
Problem-Solving & Communication: Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and control schematics; strong technical communication skills.
